Four places
Badly roasted coffee can't be fixed by the machine. An impeccable machine can't fix an uneven grind.
There are four places: the coffee we use, the grind, the machine and the hand that runs it. The last gets measured least. It decides the order in which the other three are adjusted.
When a cup doesn't resemble yesterday's, before turning a dial we find which of the four changed.
